Camp Kahdalea
This project was focused on enhancing the mountain bike program at Camp Kahdalea by developing on-site skills areas that include short trails and integrated features designed specifically for instruction and progression. The trails and features will be intuitive for coaching, allowing instructors to easily demonstrate techniques while providing a welcoming experience for beginner riders and optional advanced lines for skill development. The work included clearing corridors and underbrush, constructing a short green-level trail, and a skills area with rollers, berms, progressive rock drops, and a small rock garden. The end of the project required re-naturalizing all disturbed areas to ensure a polished appearance and long-term sustainability.
Week 1
We were lucky to start with a blank slate for this skills park, which gave us the opportunity to fully shape the layout and progression from the ground up without any limitations
Started with heavy underbrushing and corridoring throughout the entire footprint, opening up each section and clearly defining where every line and feature would flow
Roughed in the flow line, berm line, and progressive rock drops, then took advantage of the great dirt on site to shape and dial in rollers and berms so everything rides smooth and connects well
Week 2
Started final shaping with the machine, dialing in transitions, landings, and overall flow across the park
Put in a lot of detailed handwork on the progressive rock drops and make sure each feature rides right
Plate compacted and fully dialed the flow and berm lines so everything is running smooth and consistent
Wrapped up with finishing touches—added seed and straw to stabilize exposed dirt and renaturalized the surrounding areas
